..holy shit...how did you take that? is that actually the moon?....tell me your secrets...how do you get the shot, so that it's not a giant ball of glowing light?
such a rad shot. how much does a lens like that cost?? i still don't know much about what the "mm" numbers mean....but it sounds like it can "zoom" far..hahaha.
Thanks. I have the panasonic fz5 because it has a really nice fixed lens system 35mm to 420mm zoom with an aperture of 2.8-3.7. If you bought a lens like that for an SLR you'd be looking at $4000 and it would probably have a darker aperture, f4-5.6, which equals to slower shutter speeds. Most cameras come with 35mm-50mm equivalent type lenses. Wide angle lenses are 28mm and under on film. 16mm is a fish eye. 135mm is a typical portrait lens and 200mm -300mm is a zoom. Anything over that is a pretty much a super zoom. On digital its a little different but they usually give you the film equivalent for you to understand.

Use a tripod and a long lens.
1/160 @ f3.7
I cropped the image a bit and I have a 420mm lens.
